Last week was a big one for Ernie Els.
Tuesday saw the opening of The Els Center of Excellence in Jupiter. The $35 million dollar school for autistic children has been the labor of love for Ernie and Liezl for a number of years, with the money raised through their Els for Autism Foundation.
“Hopefully this school will be the norm for future ones,” Els observed at the ribbon cutting ceremony.
And on Wednesday, Els was named this year’s recipient of the Payne Stewart Award. He will be honored at next month’s Tour Championship, at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. The award is bestowed to the player who “best exemplifies Stewart’s steadfast values of character, charity and sportsmanship.”
Clearly nice guys do finish first occasionally!
