Tour Championship: Who's in and who's out?

Sean Hegarty | 09/04/2020

Which, if any of our local Palm Beach County PGA Tour stars will win this years season long race to the Fed Ex Cup, and the cool $15,000,000 that comes along with it?

Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas, Rory McIlroy, and Daniel Berger represent our local contingents' best chance. It is fitting that the number one player in the world, Palm Beach Gardens resident Dustin Johnson, begins in the lead at ten under par in the second year of the Fed Ex Cup staggered start playoff format. DJ. has been on a tear recently. He finished 2nd at the PGA Championship, won the Northern Trust by eleven shots, and finished 2nd to John Rahm in a playoff at the BMW Championship last week at Olympia fields. DJ. has been in this position before and has not yet been able to take home the grand prize, will this be his year?

Jupiter resident, Justin Thomas, starts just a few shots back at seven under. JT. is only a few years removed from his first Fed Ex Cup championship in 2017. Berger, who also resides in Jupiter Florida starts the championship at four under par. Berger has been playing some excellent golf including four top three finishes in his last seven starts. Finally, you have new father and defending Fed Ex Cup Champion, Rory McIlroy. Rory, with an excellent track record at East Lake, could be a threat to come from behind to win again.

It's no surprise that Palm Beach County is where many of the best players in the world decide to call home. Beautiful weather, world class golf courses, no state income tax, and amazing beaches & waterways are just a few of the many reasons. Course's like The Bear's Club, Medalist, The Dye Preserve, and Michael Jordan's new course Grove XXiii are host to many established and aspiring PGA Tour players. *Tiger Woods, Rickie Fowler, Keegan Bradley, and Matthew Wolff are a few of our local favorites that failed to qualify for this years finale.
